The obverse (front) of the American Gold Eagle is taken from Augustus Saint-Gaudens $20 dollar gold piece, considered by most to be one of the most beautiful coins ever minted.
The reverse (back) of the coin has the heraldic American Eagle, symbol of the might and power of the United States of America.
This coin is 22karat in gold purity, containing one ounce of pure gold by weight.
The Gold Eagle is marked as $50 (Fifty dollars) in legal tender. The weight and purity of the Gold Eagle are guaranteed by the United States Government and are issued by the United States Mint.
The Gold Eagle also, as with the Silver and Platinum Eagles, comes in uncirculated and Proof varieties. The Gold Eagle is also eligible to be placed within an IRA. The American Gold Eagle is available in one ounce, ½ ounce, ¼ ounce and 1/10 ounce sizes.
These “fractional” varieties are very popular and are, at times, difficult to obtain.

The United States Mint has temporarily ceased production of the 2009 American Gold Eagle, in the one ounce and fractional ounce sizes. The Mint expects to resume production sometime in early 2010. We have stock of these coins from time to time, but we are limited to stock on hand. Premiums have increase dramatically on these coins, also.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
